Move forward by leaving perfection behind

Perfectionism has held me back so many times in my life. I thought it was simply a desire to do my very best, but really it was fear in a cunning disguise.

It took me a long time to realise the truth. When I think about the amount of work I haven’t finished, the number of opportunities I haven’t taken because I feared not being the best or not putting in a perfect performance.

Not to mention the time I’ve wasted honing and fine-tuning every bit of copy I’ve ever written.

Now I’m trying to move past all that because perfection is exhausting, not ‘real’ and a massive barrier to success.

So yes there might be some typos in my copy, I stumble over my words in my videos, and this website is a work in progress. But so what? The world will most definitely keep turning.

Done is better than perfect.

I’ll leave you with this striking quote from the amazing Elizabeth Gilbert. Reading this was a real ‘a-ha’ moment for me. I have it stuck to the wall above my desk to help jolt me back into line when I catch myself unnecessarily over-complicating or endlessly finessing!

“Perfectionism is just fear in really good shoes.”

Elizabeth Gilbert

Are your perfectionist tendencies holding you back? Or have your found a way to kick perfection’s butt?

I’d love to know how you’ve overcome it. Reveal all in the comments!

Ta-ra for now!

Thank you for this. Over-thinking has definitely been one of my greatest challenges. And you’re right, it is really fear in disguise! Finally managed to get a hold on it though and move forward. It’s nice to know I’m not alone 🙂
